Congratulations to Brendan Burnett of Taunton’s United Dojos Tai Chi and Kung Fu Club, for winning 3rd in traditional Tai Chi with his Cannon Fist Form, and 3rd in Weapons for his Sabre form, at the London Wu Shu Open, as part the SENI 2010 international combat arts show held at the London Excel Centre on the 29th may. Wing Chun , The short yet effective martial art first made famous by the Late Great Bruce Lee , A simple style once championed by a young woman by the name of Wing Chun. ( Praise Spring ) It is known for its easy learning yet scientific approach to self defense. The style has been widely used in the martial art film industry because of its practical use yet ease of control. It is considered as one of the most effective fighting forms to come out of southern China . The story of Wing Chun is that the style was first taught to her by a nun of the Shaolin Temple , who shortened some of the patterns down and combined them with simple two person exercises and with the use of some basic training equipment to produce a highly effective self defense form that that used technique over strength and sense over aggression that could be mastered quickly by anyone regardless of size. Most Modern Wing Chun comes from The Hong Kong Islands and Southern China , During the 1970's the Hong Kong movie industry uncovered Wing Chun Kung Fu , In the Form of Bruce Lee, And his Sifu , Yip Man , who students of Wing Chun regard as the Grand Master of Wing Chun . Ip Man had many students that went on to become great teachers of Wing Chun , Including his son Ip Chun, Ip Chun who is a recognized Grandmaster of Wing Chun has many thousands of students Internationally, and so do there students. Wing Chun masters that are well known in the UK are often students of The Yip Man / Ip Chun Linage , and ,or other Yip Man Linage , Including masters such as Austin Goh, based in London and Augustine Fong, based in America. Our Wing Chun linage started With our Senior Instructor , David Friskney of Southampton who is a recognized 4th degree in Wing Chun under Ip Chun / Samuel Kwok linage and founder of F.A.S.T Wing Chun , Dave who is also a Black Belt in Karate has trained many organizations including the New York Narcotic squad in the use of the stick and Wing Chun. He also headed the " Fighting Fit" campaign and build the foundation of F.A.S.T on his experience with other Wing Chun masters and martial arts over some 25 years . Brendan Burnett, F.A.S.T only recognized 3rd level black sash in Wing Chun Kung Fu, has trained in many of the Wing Chun Linage's , as well as having in depth experience in Shaolin Gung Fu , Pentjak Silat , Japanese styles and Tai Chi , is also a recognized modern day self defense instructor and teaches though out Somerset and Dorset.
